Papers of the Ellerker family of Risby, Yorkshire [manuscript], 1612-1779 (bulk 1743-1779).

Papers concern to the property and circumstances of the Elleker family of Risby, Yorkshire (East Riding), primarily dating from the mid-later eighteenth century. The materials relate principally to Risby, but also mention Kirk Ella, Skidby, and Walkington. Letters and financial records mostly relate to law suits and estate affairs (for example, law charges). Court documents are from Beverly, Yorkshire and largely concern one of two cases: Andrew v. Coulson (L.e.1273-1285) and Vickers v. Blackston (L.e.1286-1289). Also includes a responsibility bond for merchandise on the vessel Tilbury of the East India Company to Madras (L.e.1271), a Bill for draining/improving land in the Parish of Sutton, Yorkshire (L.e.1291).

In 1777, Charlotte Ellerker married George Ferrers Townshend, earl of Leicester and later 2nd Marquis Townshend. It is possible that an administration of the Ellerker estates took place from either Tamworth or Walton, and when these were sold, the bundles of papers were left behind.
